Pumpkin Pail Solar Lights

A few people at our campground have these fun pumpkin lights in their yards and Ginny and I decided we also needed them - they are super simple to make and turned out so cute. All you need is a plastic trick-or-treat pumpkin pail, a solar light on a stake, and something to cut a hole in the pumpkin.

You want the top of the solar light to be bigger than the opening in the top of the pail, we found the perfect size at Menards (it needs to cover the opening so it will sit on the top of the pumpkin).

We tried a couple different things to cut the hole that the stake will go thru - you can try heating the plastic with a strong hair dryer so it's pliable and then cut a hole using a knife, that worked for the other people but it didn't work for me. Dennis drilled small holes in a couple but then realized the easiest thing to do is to just cut an X in the bottom and jam the stake thru it.

To summarize - make a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin no bigger than the size of the stake attached to a solar light; push the stake end thru the pumpkin pail with the top of the light sitting overtop of the opening. Push the stake into the ground.
