Long Grain Wild Rice Mix

When I made the family meal "Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole" I was going to use boxed rice mix but when I went to mix it up I saw that the mix has gluten in it and we have 2 family members who can't eat gluten so I googled to see about making my own mix and found this recipe at the spruce eats. It's easy to put together and tastes great, no more needing to purchase the boxed kind anymore! I added more of all the seasonings to up the flavor and used the Dash seasoning I had on hand, but otherwise followed the recipe as written.

Oh, one more thing - the ingredients below don't equal 2 cups, but the instructions for making the rice call for 2 cups hahahah. Not sure why they wrote it like that - I just increased the amount of rices to 2 cups total.

  • 1 cup long grain brown rice

  • 1/2 cup wild rice

  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley

  • 2 teaspoons dried herb mix seasoning (such as Spike)

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried tarragon leaves

  • 1/8 teaspoon ground white pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

  • Mix all until combined. Store in an airtight container until you're ready to make it.

To make the rice you'll need:
    • 3-1/4 cups water
    • 2 cups long grain wild rice mix
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    1. Bring water to boil in a medium saucepan. Add rice mix, cover the pan, reduce heat, and simmer for 50 minutes.
    2. Remove pan from heat, add butter, cover, and let sit for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
