Ombre Nail Art...by G.

Brooke made two-toned frosting last week (click here for that post) and another niece made two-toned nail art to share with us this week...funny coincidence. As you can imagine the techniques are not at all similar!

G. brushed two different colors of nail polish onto a makeup sponge and then sponged onto her nails giving a two-toned effect. Clean up any polish that gets onto your fingers by dipping a qtip into polish remover and carefully go around your nails. Finish with a clear coat of polish. Easy nail art - and if you do it with two completely different colors the effect would really pop - G. did it with two polishes that go together so it's a little hard in this picture to see the result, but I like that by using coordinating colors this is a totally adult appropriate look - and if you do a couple crazy bold colors you're going to get a funky cool look. Love this idea - good one niece!

Patriotic Nail Art

Ok, this isn't really nail "art" but it's a fun last minute idea if you're going to a party or just want to do a little something to dress up for the Fourth - I just painted my nails different colors (thumbs blue, 3 middle fingers red, pinky white) but then with the bracelets and blue ring it all looks fun and patriotic together (I already own all of the jewelry - I made the red bead wrap-around bracelet and my friend Mary made me the beaded flag bracelet years ago, I have no idea how she did it...I should ask her to show you guys, I love it and wear it every 4th of July!).

Valentine Nail Art

I was sitting at my craft table playing around and decided to give myself a very quick little nail art for Valentines day. I haven't done any since my google eyes at Halloween and this is even easier than that was - it took me maybe 30 seconds. I'm not into elaborate designs and certainly am not talented enough to paint much on my nails so I stopped after 2 little hearts. Not going crazy with it :).

It's simple - I painted my nails pink a couple days ago; start with yours painted any color you feel like. Then dip the tip of a small brush in a coordinating color (or two - I did one red heart, one white), make two dots next to each other and then drag the brush tip down from the dots to make the point of the heart bottom. I only did it on my left ring finger, but try it wherever you want for a quick easy last minute Valentine idea!

Halloween Nail Art

I don't do nail art on myself very often - my left hand is hopeless when it comes to drawing things! Was inspired though when I saw a picture of someone who painted googly eyes on her nails and I wondered if I could change the idea to just super gluing actual googly eyes on my nails... sure enough, it worked (and it's kind of funny). Surprisingly they stayed on for a few days but I have to admit, it felt kinda weird and I wanted them off.

So my next attempt at nail art is a little more "normal"; I just painted them different halloween colors and dotted on eyes instead (I used craft paint and the little round end of a paintbrush to make the dots), also tried a ghostly one based on the squash ghosts from a few days ago - wasn't hard to do on myself at all. This will be easier to live with I think...
