Eggshell Candles

Saw this idea online and it's so so cute (and easy!) that I had to make some as little Easter gifts. They are a little fragile (obviously, since they are eggshells!), but I like the jagged edges; they'll be fun adorable gifts or table decorations.

To make: carefully break open eggs leaving as much intact as you can (some of mine are pretty much just halves and even that small of an opening worked); remove the egg, rinse the shell, let it air dry.

Cut small lengths of candle wicks and stick them in the bottom of each eggshell with a little soft wax.

Create a double-boiler by putting an inch of water in a saucepan, place a smaller glass jar or measuring cup (or an empty tin can) in the saucepan. Add candle wax along with a chunk of broken crayon in whatever color you want to the glass jar and melt over low heat.

Once it's melted carefully pour into the broken egg shells. The wicks will probably fall over, I held them in place by resting toothpicks next to each wick until the candle wax set up.

Once the wax is solid trim the wicks to about 1/4" or so. Done! What a cute addition to your Easter decorations - put them in egg cups or small bowls on the table, or at each place setting; or put them in empty egg cartons to give as gifts (if you can bear to part with them haha, I might not be gifting these after all!).

I made them with white eggshells and colored candlewax, but dyeing the eggshells would also be nice.

Perler Bead Easter Egg

Not having my niece around to do kid crafts with is a bummer - I love kid crafting but doing it by myself and not having her as my excuse to make silly kid things is making me feel a little lame! Oh well, this is a fun one and I'm owning it, not hiding behind the kid hahahaha. I love perler beads and have a giant tub of them - they are little plastic beads that you put on a form in different patterns and shapes, then melt them using an iron. Have you ever played with them? Great kid craft (other than the melting part, you'll want a grown up doing that). Brooke and I have done these for years, my favorite was the time we made gross ones - she did Hello Kitty with a runny nose and I did a scottie dog peeing. Just being silly :)

Anyway - today it's Easter eggs. I only made one but if you make a few of them and string together it would make a cute garland. Use whatever colors and pattern you like. Easy. One tip that we do is to place the beads on the form using tweezers, the beads are little and it isn't always easy to put them in place with your fingers...and another thing is to be super careful when carrying the form to the iron, I can't tell you how many times we've knocked the beads off! I did it with this Easter egg and I WAS being careful, ugh - then you have to put them all back on again.

I left one bead out to make a hole in the top center for hanging.
After placing the beads in the pattern and shape you want, cover with a piece of paper that
comes with the beads and carefully iron the beads so they melt and stay together.

Bunny Egg Cozy

Have a headache (and not a "drank too much" headache!) so took a lazy day (sort of like a "personal day" or "mental health" day if I was working outside of the house, but since I'm at home I'm calling it "lazy day" haha) ...put away all the shamrock crap and almost got rid of the leftover Irish bread and Irish cream bundt cake (both of which were a big hit btw) - my plan was to throw them both out but couldn't do it, they can stay one more day and then I'm pitching them! Anyway...now that St. Patrick's Day is behind us it's time to start thinking about Easter - can you believe it's almost Easter already?!

I was surfing for Easter ideas and came across this egg cozy project on Joanne.com - and even though I am a grown-up I'm still a sap for cutie little stuffed animals so I gave this a try. And it turned out super cute! It took me about an hour and he makes me so happy I'm planning to make lots more in different colors - either I'll send them to the fam, or use them as table decoration/party favors for Easter dinner.

This crocheted bunny has an opening in the bottom that is big enough to slip a plastic egg in, I'm going to fill the egg with little candies before putting the bunny cozy over top of it. The yarn gives the egg stability and will stand up without rolling over - seriously, this is too cute.

3 crocheted pieces - the body and two ears. you'll also need a couple beads for the eyes and a plastic egg, along with scissors, yarn, and a big needle.
after sewing the ears to the body, make a pompom tail
(I just wound yarn around a credit card about 50 times. carefully pull it off the card
and tie a long piece of yarn around the middle, pull tight and tie in a knot.
cut the loops and then trim to an even ball)and attach it to the back.
then sew the beads on for eyes and a triangle of yarn for the nose.
bunny tail... obviously.

This reminds me of the crocheted cactus I made for Kelly a few months ago, click here for that post. Not as cute as the bunny Mary knitted me of course - I just looked and don't think I ever posted her adorable bunny "Dottie"!! I can't believe it - I will show you tomorrow because if you're a knitter you totally should make one!

I saw this project on Joanne.com, get the crochet directions here.
