Pruning Succulents

I have quite a few pots of succulents - let me first say I know nothing about taking care of them and am not sure why I have so many, and because of that they have grown tall and spindly and I was thiiiiis close to tossing them out. Before giving up on them tho I decided to prune them way back and see what happens, figure I've got nothing to lose!

None of this is scientific or researched or guaranteed - I'm totally winging it here. For the plants that were mostly stem with a leafy top I literally cut the tops off most of them, dipped the cut ends in rooting powder and stuck them into a pot of succulent blend planting material. Instead of throwing the remaining long stems out I left them planted in the original container and after a couple weeks I have a few leaves popping out - now that I know it's possibly going to work I will cut the stems down so if and when the plant does continue to grow I'll be starting with a much shorter base. The tops that I planted straight into the pot are doing just fine too...so far, so good.

For the rest I just cleaned them up, removing dead or bad leaves, and repotted them. Instead of having a bunch of small plant pots I combined some of them into one larger pot and they look so much nicer now.
