Melting Bottle Wax

My sis got me a cute decanter/bottle and she said the picture on the website showed melted red wax over the top like a Maker's Mark bottle and she was disappointed that it was just a plain cap - so I set about seeing if I could add some wax to it.

my stellar photography skills makes it look
like the wax is messy and smeared, but it isn't!

I *ahem* happened to have a Maker's Mark bottle on hand so I cut off the wax from around the top as best I could and fit it around the plain bottle top. Using a lighter* I carefully held it close to the wax and when it started to run I turned the bottle in different directions to fill in where the cut was so it would seal to the bottle.

For the cap, I used the Maker's Mark red top and glued 1/2 of a wine cork to the underside so I could seal the bottle.

I think it turned out cute!

note* I used a flick lighter and that wasn't smart. The top of the lighter got too hot when I needed to keep flicking it and burned my thumb. Next time, or for your FYI if you want to make this, I would use either a candle or one of those long lighter wand things to protect my hand (like this photo):
