Copycat In-N-Out Animal Style Fries

I'm not sure if I'm happy to know how to make In-N-Outs animal-style fries. Well, actually I'm very happy to know how - I just hope I have the willpower to not eat them all. the. time.

Because I will want to eat them all. the. time!

In-N-Out cuts their fries fresh, if you go thru the drive thru you can watch them actually cutting and frying them while you pull through. Yum. This recipe starts with frozen fries, feel free to make your own in true  In-N-Out fashion if you have the time and desire.

  • 32 ounces frozen french fries
  • 4 American cheese slices
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 TBS butter
  •  teaspoon salt
  •  teaspoon pepper
  • In-N-Out copycat sauce (click here for instructions)

  1. Cook the frozen french fries according to the directions. Set aside.

For the onions:
  1. To caramelize the onions, place a medium or small skillet over medium heat. Add butter and melt. Add chopped onions and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat, sautéing. Add a pinch of salt and pepper, then cook 5 more minutes, sautéing while cooking. Once the onions are browned they are done. Set aside.

To assemble fries:
  1. Preheat the oven to broil. Cover a medium baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Spread the cooked french fries in an even layer. Add 4 slices of American cheese over the top. Place into the oven and broil for 5 minutes, watching it closely. Once the cheese is melted they are done. *Broil time may vary based off your oven, so watch them carefully while they are cooking* Remove from oven.

Spread cooked onions over the top evenly. Spread In-N-Out sauce over the top. Eat immediately.
