Cardstock Gift Box

I haven't made any of Ronda's cute gift enclosures lately - she is so creative and has shown me so so many different ways to make boxes, envelopes, pouches, etc. (so many I kind of forget about how many different ones I've learned!). I caught her doing a facebook live video the other day showing yet another gift box, this one looked so easy and quick to make that I immediately ran to the craft room to whip one out for a gift that I'm giving at a party tonight.  Turned out so cute, and came together so quickly, that I have to share with you. The only thing I changed is the little decorative thing on the front - I don't have the daisy punches that she used so I winged it with what I have on hand. How useful and cute is this box? I will not be forgetting about this one, I can imagine using it all the time. Ronda made a video and it was very easy to follow, I'll try to do the same with pictures. Check it out:

You need an 8.5 x 11" sheet of cardstock for the box itself, and a 6" square of decorative paper for the front and back panels of the box.

Score the cardstock at 2" on the 11" side, turn and score the other side at 2", 5 1/4", 7 1/4", 10 1/2"
Cut off 1/2 inch across the top but keep the strip for the end.
Cut the decorative paper in 2 pieces 3" x 5 3/4".

Fold all of the score lines a bit so the paper is flexible. Cut the score lines up 2" to meet the long score you made the length of the paper. Remove the little 1/2" strip along the side.

Run adhesive along the 1/2" side and across the flap below it. Before assembling the box, glue on the 3 x 5 3/4" decorative paper panels. Fold the box into shape, tuck in the 1/2" strip and glue to the other side. Fold in the short flaps, then the flap that has adhesive on it, then the other flap to create the bottom.

To finish - fold the strip that you cut off in the beginning along the score lines, put glue on both ends and wrap around the box. Add embellishment of your choice - Ronda made a cute sunflower out of 4 punched flower pieces and a brown circle for the center;  I layered 3 flower pieces (curl the edges a bit using a bone folder or wrap around a pencil and attached a gem for the center. Stuck on the front using dimensional foam squares so it stands out a bit from the box.

The top of this box is open so you'll see whatever you put inside it. Ronda's example had a gift wrapped with cellophane with the ends sticking up out of the top - so cute.

Folded Paper Pouch

I forgot about making these cool folded paper pouches at Ronda's a while ago, sorting thru photos today I came across them and thought I'd share - looking thru my photos I realize I am quite behind blogging a bunch of things! Apparently I make more than I have days to share hahah!!

I still love the other open top pouch I made for Ronda (all 120 of them - click here for that post) and continue to make them; the last time was at Christmas when I made one with a cover which I figured out how to do all by myself (!) to hold a few gift cards. See it at the bottom of this post (I forgot how cute it turned out!).

For this folded pouch you'll need a piece of cardstock 4 1/2" x 12".

Score both of the long sides 3/4" in, then turn the paper and score across the narrow side at 2 1/2" and 8". Starting at the top where the 2 1/2" score line is, remove 8" of the long sides as shown (leaving 3/4" x 4" piece that forms tabs at the bottom edge where the other score line is - see picture).

Fold the two side tabs in, apply adhesive to the back sides of the tabs (the white strips in the below picture shows where I applied double stick tape), then fold at the bottom score line so the tabs stick and create the opening. You can notch the top corners if you want a little more detail. Once again, look at the picture to try to figure out what I'm saying - it's not hard I just have issues describing what I'm doing!
To finish, put whatever goodie you want into the pouch (Ronda's held Stampin' Up gem embellishments which fit perfectly) and fold the top part down at the remaining score line (the one that you made at 2 1/2"). It will overlap the pouch opening a little bit.
She had me make these cute tags to stick on the front overtop of some twine I wrapped and tied to hold the flap down.

A few days later I made the same pouch to hold a gift card using double-sided patterned paper, I like the contrasting pattern on the inside. You can see I didn't notch the corners, tied pretty ribbon around to keep the flap closed and attached a card to finish it.

Here is the other paper pouch that I learned to make from Ronda, I added a cover over the open end to sort of turn a gift card holder into more of a present. Cute, right?

Anniversary Card

I had a photo from my sister's wedding last year made into a 4x6 magnet that I sent them for their one-year anniversary - I didn't have a card though and really planned to go buy one until it dawned on me that I have a craft room full of paper and supplies to make one (not to mention that I help Ronda who has a CARD-MAKING business! Geesh you'd think my first thought would have been to make one and not buy it!). Anyway...I started to make a card with a little heart on the front (I'm turning that into a Valentines card and will show you later) but then had the idea to use the magnet as part of the card.

Their wedding colors were navy and blush so I thought it'd be a little nice touch making this card from those colors. Using an oval die cut and my Big Shot I cut out a hole in the center of the navy card (a piece of 9"x 6.25" cardstock folded in half), measuring first where it needed to be so you could see their faces - this took me a couple tries to get it centered correctly. Then punched out the word "happy" from blush cardstock using a set of word die-cuts I have from Stampin' Up - I love how pretty the font is - and layered it on top of a rectangle strip of glitter paper and a glitter paper heart using foam dimensionals. Inserted the magnet and held the card shut by wrapping it with a pretty piece of ribbon. Simple but I think it's cute - Happy Anniversary Sissy!

Heart You To (Reese's) Pieces!

Here is another cute Ronda project that I helped assemble - between the things I've made for her seasonal display table and the projects I help her with, it's shaping up to be a Ronda month! This is such a fun easy idea I had to share.

The tag is just a small oval cut or punched out of white cardstock; she has a heart and words stamp from Stampin' Up that I used but you could easily just color on a heart and print the words by hand so don't let that stop you from making these! Add a short length of matching ribbon to the tag. Then fill these little plastic test tubes with Reeses Pieces, put the cork stopper in, attach the ribbon and tag by a pushpin in the top. Done. What fun little gifts.

Today is our anniversary - married 23 years! What?! I'd love to give him one of these but the poor guy can't have Reese's (nut allergy stops him from eating all kinds of yummy things - dang, so sad!), I'd substitute m&m's but then the tag wouldn't make any sense hahaha!! Adorable little anniversary gift tho...or party favors, place setting decoration, etc.

note: I don't know where she got the 4" test tubes but I see that Amazon sells 50/$7 plus shipping, so they aren't hard to find.

Halloween Treat Box by: Ronda Wade

Hi, Everyone! I’m so excited to be a guest stamper on Jill’s Make my Day Camp blog! I get the pleasure of working with her each week, and I know she is one very talented lady, and we’re lucky she shares that with us every day.

My specialty is papercrafting, and today I want to share with you my favorite box ever. Because it’s SO EASY! You’ll need to start out with a simple 8 ½ X 11 piece of cardstock. I colored mine to look like an adorable Candy Corn, but you can choose to use any color you want!

I think this project will be best if I show you how to make it. You can click on this short video and I’ll show you where to score, how to fold it and then put it all together!

Thanks, Jill, for allowing me to share! I hope you all make time to Be Creative! It’s good for the soul!

Stamped Blessings,
Ronda Wade

"Sweet" Candy Gift

Ronda had me make these at her studio (like 100 of them!) and look how cute they turned out - what a cute little gift idea.

First stamp 2 different lemon shapes onto white paper, then punch out using a lemon punch and a small circle punch. Cut the circle in half so it looks like a lemon wedge. Punch out 2 small green leaves using a leaf punch (or cut them out free form with scissors, you just need little green leaf shapes). And lastly, punch out a larger circle from decorative paper. Cut small pieces of white paper and stamp with "sweet" in black - or whatever word and color you want!

Assemble the whole tag thing by layering the pieces on top of each other like the picture using small dimensional tape squares (so the pieces are standing away from the piece underneath it to give it more dimension).

Fill small cellophane bags with candy and tie both ends with short pieces of ribbon or twine. Staple the tag to one end.

All supplies are Stampin' Up.

Paper Umbrella

While making things for Ronda's seasonal display I thought I needed to make paper umbrellas, 'cause that seems pretty beachy.

I took the glass stones out of the mesh
bag before putting it on her table!

Found some patterns online (click here for the source and pattern I used), cut them out using different Stampin' Up papers and whipped them up in no time. I made a couple different sizes but the instructions are the same, just scale the original pattern up or down to make it the size you want. I originally had a small one in the beachy scene in a box that I showed you yesterday (click here for that post) but then I moved it to a clear glass decorative box along with some sand and shells. The large umbrella looks perfect in a big chunky footed glass filled with small clear glass rocks - I think they look like ice cubes. Cute, right? Try them, they're easy and fun - these would be cute for all kinds of events and parties!

pattern is on the top right, finished umbrella
top is next to it. Cut out 8 "petals" in whatever
paper you want - I mixed them up but just
one or two colors would be cute too!

fold the tabs as instructed on the pattern

glue to each other forming the umbrella. I don't have a picture but you then
stick a skewer thru the little hole in the top of the umbrella where all the
pieces come together in the middle, add a drop of glue to hold.
Then glue a small bead to the tip of the skewer to finish.

Beachy Scene in a Wood Box (popsicle stick adirondack chair, paper umbrella, paper hat, fish marbles)

Look how cute this little scene turned out - I made a popsicle stick adirondack chair, paper umbrella, paper hat, and a fishy background (note I used Stampin' Up paper for all the paper projects); filled the chalkboard box I made a while ago (click here for that post) with sand and some fake long grass, and set up the cute scene...

I looked online for how to make a popsicle adirondack chair - found a few things to give me an idea but ended up just winging it. I think you can see from the pictures how I did it  - I cut the sticks to length with my craft wire cutters (they get used for everything - not just wire cutting!) and used Elmer's glue to stick it all together. It isn't perfect but come on, it's a popsicle stick chair and doesn't really need to be ;).

Here's how I made everything except the paper umbrella, come back tomorrow and I'll show you that!

-Cut 5 popsicle sticks to different lengths to make the back, glue to a small stick across the back to hold together.
-Cut 2 sticks in half to make the seat, then glue to the chair back.
-Cut 2 sticks to make the back leg supports, I used 2 little scrap pieces for the front legs and the pieces on the top of the seat. Glue all together.

The hat was very simple but adds a little beachy touch I think is cute - cut out 2 circles from card stock, a 2" for the brim and a 1" for the top. Then cut a strip from the same paper about 1/2" by about 4" or however long you need to go around the 1" circle to make the side of the hat. Curl the strip up to form a 1" circle and glue (I used a gluestick) to hold it's shape, then glue to the 1" circle that is the top  of the hat. Then glue that to the 2" circle to make the hat. I tied a piece of ribbon around it to make it even cuter.

my glue stick is an inch around so I used
that as a guide. see the strip around the top
of the glue stick, that's the side of the hat.

I glued the strip around the glue stick and
then glued the top on and tied with ribbon
before removing it from the glue stick and
attaching to the 2" bottom circle. Just helped
hold everything in place doing it this way.

For the background I cut out fish shapes from patterned Stampin' Up paper and mod podged large flat glass stones on top then glued them to a background paper cut to fit inside the box. I also cut some random flowy shapes to look like seaweed and put them along the bottom of the background.

Spider Mum Paper Flowers

Remember the paper fireworks I posted before the Fourth? Well here's what I was making when I decided they would be good fireworks - spider mums. I wanted a simple airy flowery filler for Ronda's display table, saw these here and really liked them - and since I'm using Ronda's Stampin' Up  double sided papers I thought they'd be perfect.

So you make the flower part just like the fireworks, only I cut the paper into 3" x 12" strips so they are a little thicker than the fireworks. I copied the directions I posted before, click here to see the instruction pictures and that post...

for the fireworks: 3.5"x8.5" strip of cardstock, fringe one long edge with fringing scissors (or just make thin cuts the entire length with sharp scissors). Tightly roll up the strip, run some glue (I used a glue stick) along the last one inch of end so it'll stay coiled up. Pull the fringe down, slightly curving it with your fingers as you go so it pulls apart and looks like a paper pompom. Add a drop of glue to the underside of the coil then insert a wooden skewer.

To make them into flowers is a tiny bit trickier. You need to wrap the bottom of the flower onto a piece of floral wire using floral tape, but the bottom of the flower is way bigger than the wire so there needs to be something between the flower and the wire so it tapers down more like a real flower would. I was unable to just tape the flower to the wire. The instructions I followed said she uses pieces of tissue paper wadded up to fill in the gap, that worked pretty good - I thought maybe cotton balls would work but the tissue paper is better. I struggled getting the flower, filler, and wire to stay together while I was wrapping with the floral tape so played around with better ways to go about doing that - I found that if you wrap regular clear tape around first it's so much easier to then wrap the floral tape around the bottom of the flower, around the filler, and then down the wire a few inches

To shape them, run your finger and thumb down each strand and bend slightly.
