I don't post very many 'ideas' that I haven't tried, but I just saw this on bhg.com and think I'll make it for the 4th - I won't make it in time to share how mine turns out but wanted you to see the inspiration photo in case you also want to use this idea. I'm thinking of doing a single layer 13x9 cake, frosting it white and then either piping on stripes of buttercream and adding red and blue sugar crystals to the stripes, or adding fondant stripes like this inspiration photo. I don't love fondant, it is nice to look at but doesn't taste that great (to me) - so I'll probably do buttercream. Cute idea tho, right? And I love the tall skinny red candles, I'm going to look for those!
