Confetti Heart Picks

Janis and I had fun making these confetti heart picks today - a little messy maybe, but super cute. And other than potentially burning yourself with the hot glue, these are easy and come together quick once you make the confetti.

We made confetti out of scrap pieces of cardstock and patterned scrapbooking paper, tissue paper, and a dollar store pompom (that added sparkly foil bits that I really like). To easily cut the paper into little bits, just make slits close together along an edge of paper and then cut across the slits to make tiny squares and pieces. The pompom was super easy, just hold the foil strips together and snip the edges. Combine it all together and you've got confetti...word of caution: this little confetti tends to go everywhere so maybe put it on a paper plate or in a pie dish or something to help contain it! It's right up there with glitter when it comes to getting on everything!

Now to make the heart picks - heat up your hot glue gun (we did it with both a large gun and a mini gun). Trace the outline of a heart onto parchment paper so you have a guide, if you think you can just wing it then do that! Then go over the outline with the hot glue gun making sure that the line of glue is solid the whole way around, add a toothpick or skewer to the bottom tip of the heart - if you work quickly enough you can then add confetti to the glue before it sets up, but if it sets up before you apply the confetti just trace around the heart with more glue and coat it all with confetti. Let it dry then peel the heart off the parchment paper, turn over and apply more glue and confetti to the other side. Let it cool and dry completely. If you have any bare spots or places you want more confetti just keep adding glue and confetti until it's all covered. To make the shape a little more defined I trimmed around the inner and outer edges to clean it up a bit.

cover hot glue with confetti and let cool.
Note: At first I made the hearts really big on top of a long skewer but it needed to be anchored more so the skewer had to go thru the middle of the heart - but then it looked like a pretzel to me so we made the rest of them smaller on toothpicks so the middle could be open.

once the front is cool peel off the parchment and do the other side

Oh, and PS: this should be obvious, and don't ask me how I know, but don't blow on the heart hoping it'll cool faster...until you want to watch confetti literally flying around the room!! Oops LOL!
