Welcome to day camp - it's either a place for you to get inspired and want to make stuff, or a place where I can show off the cute things I've made since my family is tired of my texting them pictures every day! Just like camp I do all kinds of fun projects - crafts, DIY, bake, cook, garden and more - and can't wait to share them with anyone looking for ideas.
I don't show you very many ideas or recipes that I haven't tried, but we are road-tripping this week so I'm not able to craft or cook for a few days and by the time I'm back there won't be a lot of time for you to make some projects that I've had in my file of things to make for Christmas. So I'm just sharing the inspo pics for a few days...
I especially like the paper straw Christmas tree idea! And the little sleds with candy canes for the skis is really cute too. I cut off the pompom directions - after making the pompom, wrap the package with coordinating yarn and attach the pompom to the top).

Paint a small clay plant pot silver, remove a ball ornament hanger and place the ornament in the vase, add a poinsettia (real or fake). Obviously you could paint the vase any color or design, same for the ornament. Cute and simple.

Melt candy melts according to package directions. Put in a ziplock bag, click a small piece of one corner, drizzle the melted candy over skewers in a tree shape. Add sprinkles before the candy sets up.

Saw this cute santa hat made out of wine corks on Pinterest - so cute and looks easy enough!

I don't have time to make this and share with you in time for Christmas, but I still wanted you to see it and the pattern - if you are a crocheter you might want to whip this out as a gift (or for yourself). Pattern says the skill level is 'easy' which even tho I do crochet I'm all about the 'easy' crafts hahahah!
I don't know where I saw this pattern, it says 'AnniesCraftStore.com' on the bottom but that isn't where I found it. If you make this please share the completed project with us!
It's been a very hectic week and I didn't do much cooking (how many times do I say this? A lot, I know - and I bet most everyone feels the same this time of year!). So no menu ideas this time around.
look at this funny picture I took - first is a line of ducks walking toward the water followed by a line of Canadian geese...made me laugh
That's it, I gotta keep moving - we are trying to get ready for a cross-country trip and I'm playing catch-up. See you tomorrow! Bye!
I made mixed nuts using this recipe a long time ago (click here for that post); after drying some fresh pumpkin seeds the other day I thought I'd do something different with them and make them sweet and spicy, they turned out really good - almost candy like and quite addicting. Crunchy and chewy at the same time, yum.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon water
1 egg white, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon coarse salt, plus additional for sprinkling
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups clean, dry, pumpkin seeds
Preheat oven to 250'. Mix all the ingredients except the seeds together until well combined, then mix with the pumpkin seeds and spread out on a greased baking sheet. Roast until they are the texture you want, stirring every 20 minutes or so. Mine took an hour and 1/2 until they were browned and clumped together (I say clumped which doesn't sound good, but it is!), remove from oven and let cool, then break them into bite-sized pieces.
Made this for my sis - here’s her review and the recipe follows along with my notes (I did change a few things but I'll give you the recipe as written):
So I didn’t see the recipe before I heated this up for dinner. The husband asked me what is was called and I had no idea. We scooped it out and it smelled delicious and he asked me what was in it and I had no idea. Let me be clear it didn’t really look “great”. Not horrible but not great. The fact we couldn’t tell what it was (pasta? We saw chicken and some tomatoes but what else?) but at first bite we were hooked.
I have to be honest, we spent the first part of the meal still trying to figure out what exactly it is. Still couldn’t tell if there is noodles or not but it did have delicious pieces of chicken. It all kind of blended together and tasted great whatever it is. It’s a little bit spicy like a Tex-Mex kind of thing which I really like. My husband thought I would be putting sour cream on it but it really didn’t need that because it was so good just the way it was. It definitely gave off a vibe of almost a thick chicken stew? But either way we loved it. We both gave it an 8.
Ps.. I would need to see the recipe to decide if I’m going to make it again. First, If its terrible for me or has straight cream cheese or something in it maybe not- or if it is super complicated/hard to make. But if its neither of things I would definitely make it again because it really was delicious.

*My notes - I omitted the poblano, fresh jalapeños, and the cilantro; added chopped canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and a bit of the sauce. Added an additional 2 ounces of cream cheese, used 1/2 large onion, 1 whole red pepper, and 1/2 can diced chilies.
Look at this cute snowman I posted back on 12/1/15 - so cute and so easy I thought I’d share again:
December 1st! Time to start thinking Christmas decorations :) My niece Mickey and I made these adorable snowman ornaments out of a few simple supplies, easy and inexpensive.
All you need are plain clear ornaments (easy to find right now at the craft store), white paper, craft paint for face, and maybe some pretty ribbon to tie on the top if you want.
We painted black eyes, dark red dots for mouth, and an orange glittery "carrot" nose. Cut the paper into long thin strips (ours are 3/4" x 11" but you can do any size you want), roll the strips up into tight coils and insert into the top of the ornament (remove the hanger part first obviously). Shake the ornament around a bit to loosen the strips if they don't on their own, keep adding strips until it looks good to you. Put the hanger back on and tie a big pretty ribbon thru the hanger loop (or just hang up as is!). So cute!
