Welcome to day camp - it's either a place for you to get inspired and want to make stuff, or a place where I can show off the cute things I've made since my family is tired of my texting them pictures every day! Just like camp I do all kinds of fun projects - crafts, DIY, bake, cook, garden and more - and can't wait to share them with anyone looking for ideas.
They started with a flattened coffee filter (the basket kind, not a cone shaped one), then had kids color in the center with markers. Then the adult helper sprayed water all over the coffee filter causing the markers to blend into a tie-dye watercolor design. Then they glued it behind a piece of colored paper that already had an apple shape cut out of the middle, creating this apple picture to hang on your fridge or wherever.
We think the helper sprayed a little too much water because the apple paper wouldn't stick very good to the coffee filter, I think if we waited for it to dry more the paper would stick just fine - also they put it into a ziplock baggie immediately after assembling it and then handed it to the two year old to walk around with it so it was a little worse for wear by the time Mickey got it home hahaha. Still, so cute!

A few people at our campground have these fun pumpkin lights in their yards and Ginny and I decided we also needed them - they are super simple to make and turned out so cute. All you need is a plastic trick-or-treat pumpkin pail, a solar light on a stake, and something to cut a hole in the pumpkin.

I read this tip that I didn't know on yesterday's recipe for chicken and wild rice casserole found at BHG and thought I'd share:
This recipe calls for a baking dish, which means a dish made out of glass or ceramic (baking pans are made of metal). In contrast, a casserole dish refers to a dish that is round and deep.
I made this for "My Family Is Hungry" last week, I think the flavor is good but it's a little bland and the same texture. I'll try this recipe again but will add veggies to it next time - I think chopped broccoli, peppers, or peas would be good additions.
Macey wrote "tried Aunt Jill's chicken and wild rice casserole, and it was a warm, comforting dish that really hit the spot! The combination of tender shredded chicken, hearty wild rice, and a creamy sauce made for a filling and flavorful meal. Overall, it was a classic comfort meal that I'd definitely recommend- especially if you're looking for something hearty, and easy to reheat for leftovers." I said great review, and then Mickey wrote 'did you chat GPT that Macey?" LOL yep, she did 😂 which I thought was hilarious. Still, it's a good review that I agree with (other than adding a veg).
Prepare rice mix according to package directions. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large skillet, cook onion and celery in hot butter over medium heat until tender.
Stir in soup, sour cream, chicken broth, and basil.
Stir in cooked rice and chicken.
Transfer mixture to an ungreased 2-quart baking dish.
Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake, uncovered, about 35 minutes or until heated through. Makes 4 servings.

Happy 50th Anniversary to Ginny and Dennis - you both make it look so easy (and I know it isn't haha!!). I saw this on Pinterest and thought I'd share it with you for my Saturday 'words' post today:
How precious to remember all the years we've left behind as we welcome each new blessing still to come.
With faith and friends and family we laid a firm foundation and we built a life that stood the test of time.
The story of our past is now a brightly-woven tapestry made with love and colored with threads of gold.
Our souls complete each other. Our hearts beat as one. What a gift it is to celebrate 50 years of love!

I think these crow wreaths turned out so cute! And I got to use my jigsaw which made it even more fun to put together - I don't make things often enough to use it so it's a little intimidating when I do get it out but really, it isn't hard to use at all.
For a hanger I just used a piece of pipe cleaner and some hot glue, but that wasn't quite strong enough so I reinforced with a couple of staples.
Before assembling I sprayed some of the crows with a little glitter glue, a brush and regular glitter and glue would work as well. Let them dry,
I have some 'creepy cloth' (that's what it's called!) in my Halloween tote and cut some to fit over each circle, sort of spider web looking, and tacked it in the back with hot glue. Then I pinned a small skeleton (they came on a garland from the dollar store) in the middle. I looked everywhere for small crows but couldn't find them locally, I ended up ordering them from Amazon. To attach them in a circle around the outside perimeter of the circles I pulled off their legs and hot glued them in place.

Brooke told me she's been making these cottage cheese bowls and although it sounds weird I decided to try it and I have to say I love it! Super easy and makes a perfect lunch (at least for me).
Put cottage cheese in a microwavable bowl, she recommends using a brand that is on the thicker side. Top with marinara sauce, cooked chopped chicken, Italian seasoning, parsley, salt and pepper, Microwave for a minute until heated thru. Top with parmesan cheese, and I added chopped avocado. SO good!!!
