Welcome to day camp - it's either a place for you to get inspired and want to make stuff, or a place where I can show off the cute things I've made since my family is tired of my texting them pictures every day! Just like camp I do all kinds of fun projects - crafts, DIY, bake, cook, garden and more - and can't wait to share them with anyone looking for ideas.

I learned this tip from someone on my golf league years ago and I still do this all the time. When I first started golfing we would bring snacks every week, usually trail mix or something like that and just reached into the bag to grab a handful. Then we golfed with someone who had snacks on their golf cart but put them in a basket-style coffee filter and then put the filter into a cup holder. Genius, really. Hahaha, I even do this when I'm grabbing a snack at home and am too lazy to dirty a dish - the sides of the filter keeps the food and crumbs contained and not all over the couch (or sheets when I'm really being lazy and need to eat in bed while finishing yet another book!).
I don't have a picture of this, but I'm pretty sure you don't need one. Put the snack in a filter - it'll stand alone if you're snacking on the couch, or it'll fit in a cup holder on a golf cart.
This is what a basket coffee filter looks like:

I have an orchid plant that I've managed to keep alive and, with no help from me, even grew new flowers 2 years ago. I love plants but orchids are scary and all I've done is give it a little water once a week and starting in the spring I've been fertilizing it every other week with commercial orchid food - it didn't bloom last year but I have hopes this year we'll see them again. I just read this tip (I can't remember where I found this, maybe BHG?) and I'll add this to my bi-weekly orchid care:
Give your orchid a nutritional boost by spritzing its leaves during the growing season with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt to a gallon of water. The magnesium and calcium in the Epsom salt encourage the leaves to make more chlorophyll. "It's like a vitamin for your plant"
Note: I do not have one of those little spritzer mister things you see people who know what they're doing using on their orchids - I'll just put some of the solution in a small spray bottle and turn it to mist as best I can!

Georgie made these for Mother's Day (I'm sure she had a lot of help!) and they were thoughtful enough to make Grant one as well (Great Aunt = Grant!). I love that the flowers are her fingerprints, isn't it super cute?!! She picked out the flowers herself, Mickey said George wouldn't leave Hobby Lobby without the weird little round flower thing in addition to the daisy LOL.
I put it in my round spinning tray next to my bathroom sink, makes me so happy to look at it every day! Love.

I've helped move a couple nieces lately and we struggled with dealing with their hanging clothes - so when I saw this tip the other day I screenshot the picture so I'd remember, and I'm sharing with you so you'll remember too!
They smooshed hanging clothes tightly together, pulled a trash bag up over the clothes and crisscrossed the bag ties over the hangers to keep the bag from falling off. I'm going to try to not volunteer to move anyone any time soon LOL but if I get roped into it I'm bringing along some trash bags!

I made my usual vegetable soup the other day but this time I included the ham bone from Easter and it made the plain ol' soup so much better! I added some cooked ham pieces but not enough to have changed it so much, it must be the bone really flavored it and made the consistency of the broth a tiny bit thicker.
My 'usual' soup recipe is loosely based on the weight loss one that has been around forever - I add whatever vegetables I want or need to clean out the fridge tho so it changes every time I made it. Here's what I did this time - you can change the ingredients and customize however you like:

Dave was in the hospital last week and the first day he had to lay flat on his back for hours, which is hard to do! He couldn't lift his head or move his legs at all. He wanted to drink water tho so the nurse had him turn his head to the side facing her without lifting his head off the pillow and she held the regular straw out for him. I took over the holding the straw job but water was dribbling everywhere because the straw was so short. So I resorted to a silly thing we used to do as kids and joined 2 straws together to form one long straw - we would do this to reach across and drink out of our siblings glasses hahaha but in this case it made it so much easier to help him drink while lying flat.
I can't tell you how many comments he received over this straw hack - every nurse that came in said 'well that's a great idea'. I told him I should patent the idea for hospital use for everyone who has a hard time drinking from a short regular straw haha. If you're ever in need of a long straw during a hospital stay, or want to drink from someones glass without getting up LOL just insert one end of a straw into the end of another and voila, problem solved.

In advance of Cinco de Mayo I'm sharing some funnies:
5.3.21: melting potatoes
I don't like beer so I'm not sure why I love these so much hahaha - actually, it doesn't taste like beer but for whatever reason the beer adds really good flavor with the lime and tequila. I also like that they aren't overly sweet like most margaritas are to me. I don't have a picture but they look like margaritas!
In a pitcher combine:
Stir together and serve over ice.
A fitness challenge was bound to happen when I said I'm doing a self-challenge every month. And no, by 'fitness challenge' I don't mean 'fitness pizza in my mouth' kind of challenge 😂
This month I am challenging myself to 225 minutes of exercise per week - the recommended minimum amount is 150 minutes which is 30 minutes 5 times per week, 225 works out to 45 minutes 5 times a week which will be a challenge but with summer just around the corner I need to step up my exercising!
I'm thinking some days will be 30 minutes walking or biking, 15 minutes weights; 20 minutes walking, 10 minutes dancing, 15 minutes weights; or a 45 minute walk.
